---++ Leap II Below is the detail information: | DEVELOPED | 1999-2000 | | AUTHOR | Forest Landscape Ecology Program
Ontario Forest Research Institute
1235 Queen St. East
Sault Ste. Marie, ON
P6A 2E5
Canada
Contact: Marc Ouellette

[[mailto:marc.ouellette@mnr.gov.on.ca][marc.ouellette(at)mnr.gov.on.ca]] | | PLATFORM | Windows | | PURPOSE | Explore, monitor, and assess a landscape for its ecological status. | | FUNCTIONS | Main functions:

+ explore landscapes from many perspectives including fragmentation, edge content, spatial geometry, connectivity

+ monitor and track temporal changes in ecological criteria following implementation of management and policy options

+ applied with other DSS tools, such as fire regime simulators, assess results of spatial simulations of management and policy options | | CODES | Not Available | | TIP | INSTALLATION OF LEAP

1) To install LEAP II on NT, unzip the file 'leap2.zip'. This will create a directory called 'leap2' with several sub directories hanging off it. The installation does not modify the registry or install dlls in system directories ... everything it requires will be in the 'leap2' directory.
Sample data is provided in the 'leap2/sample_data' directory. To run LEAP II, use Explorer to double-click on 'leap2.exe' and that's it. You may want to tinker with the 'leap2.config' file to modify things like the working directory, but generally the defaults work OK. To uninstall LEAP II, simply delete the leap2 directory.

2) Unfortunately, our time is limited, and so we cannot provide technical assistance to individual LEAP II users. However, if you find a bug in the software please do send me a message indicating what the error was, the steps that lead to the error, and any error messages displayed. We will try to fix any bugs ASAP, post the fixes, and send you notice of such. Also, if you have comments or suggestions for improvements please feel free to send them to us (at [[mailto:marc.ouellette@mnr.gov.on.ca][marc.ouellette(at)mnr.gov.on.ca]]).

3) Data can be imported into LEAP using the LEAP Builder (under Tools). In the current version, data can be read from Arc/Info coverages and grids, if you are running Arc/Info. As the AML scripts to do this were developed under UNIX, and we don't have regular access to Arc/Info under NT, they still require some work. Folks running Arc/Info on NT and interested in helping with the development and testing of the scripts can drop me a line.

4) Data can also be imported more generally and reliably from 8-, 16-, and 32-bit binary raster images (this does not require any third-party software). Goto Tools/LEAP_Builder/from_Image. Work on data importing routines is ongoing, which is why some of the LEAP Builder menu-items are disabled for now.

5) Changes to Fragstats deal largely with getting it compiled under NT. Several changes were made merely to placate the compiler, in parts of the program that have not been well exercised yet, if at all (e.g. reading and writing ERDAS files). Our testing efforts have focused on the 8-bit and 16-bit data input formats, as that is what LEAP works with. Modifications were made to the nearest neighbour function to reduce space and time requirements.

Feedback on any problems you may encounter is appreciated. However, our debugging efforts will be limited only to problems related to running Fragstats under LEAP. | | HOMEPAGE | Home: this page.
Download from link below | Download file: [[%ATTACHURL%/leap2.zip][leap2.zip]] 3.3 M
